Inlaid framesThe making of inlaid framesInlaid frames are frames decorated by a mosaic design that is made up of various wood inlays. The design made in an inlaid frame is a more or less geometric pattern with flashes and shadings due to the wood coloring. Our inlaid frame making follows the “listatura”, bordering method. Unlike the veneering technique, where the wood drawing that makes the decoration of the frames is very thin, we use a wood film called “listra” which is thicker and measures about 3,4cm. The technique of the inlaid frame making consists of the drawing on the plain frame canvas, the following cutting and application of the various pieces of borders. Then inlaid frames are covered with stucco, and polished with a polishing pad. The woods used for inlaid frames are the many kinds: walnut wood, cherry wood, ebony, maple wood, rose wood, pear wood and many others.
